The difference between sand etching and other granite carving is that the sand doesn't simply cut into the granite, but changes the whole face of the granite where it is being etched. Using the contrast of the light etching and dark polished surfaces, high quality images can be permanently transfered onto the granite surface.

Using diamond-tipped engraving tools the master engravers at Creative Memorials can add precise detail to the reproductions of any photo. By using darker granites the greatest contrast can be achieved, so it is usually the prime choice for optimum quality photos.
